Ministry to the Children at the Mae Sot Dump

This is a glimpse of the dump in Mae Sot, Thailand. There are many families who live in the dump. The parents and some of the children spend all day digging through the trash, looking for things which can either be recycled for a little bit of money to buy food, or for items which can be used. These families are too poor to have land or homes, so they build shelters right in the middle of this large city dump, often right on trash piles, out of whatever materials they can find there in the dump. Several times a year, the authorities come in and run everyone off and tear down the makeshift shelters, but since the people have nowhere else to go, they just come back and start over again.

Each Saturday, we gather up as many of the children who live in the dump as will go with us into a truck, and we take them to the local school which allows us to use their facility. We sing worship songs with the kids, share the gospel (especially how much Jesus love them) and then we give them sacks of food to take home and share with their families.

What a joy to see these children worshiping, praying and beginning to understand how much God loves them!
